About
Becky Oakland

Alongside my formal teaching roles, I have lectured at both Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham on their teacher training courses. My aim has always been to enthuse, inspire and equip the teachers of tomorrow with the skills and confidence to teach music effectively. I have also delivered CPD staff training in music and am confident speaking to and teaching large groups of adults.

In December 2024, I made the decision to step away from classroom teaching to focus fully on my growing musical ventures. This has allowed me to invest more time and energy into developing ‘Becky Oakland Music’, which now includes several exciting new projects. Alongside my long-running community choir, Beeston Voices, I host the Beeston Big Sing, a large community singing event; Just Sing Beeston — a relaxed daytime singing group open to everyone and incorporating percussion; and Pitch Up and Sing, an occasional informal evening singing session at a local pub/bar. Piano lessons also form a key part of my weekly work, teaching students of varying abilities from complete beginners to those currently preparing for Grade 4.

I have led Beeston Voices Community Choir since 2011, when it began as a small group of around 12 people who simply enjoyed singing in harmony. It has since grown into a thriving choir of around 100 members, performing regularly at community events such as Oxjam, Nottingham Castle and Strelley Hall Christmas Markets to name a few, and at our annual summer and Christmas concerts. Following a successful collaboration in 2019 with John Clifford School’s Rock Choir, I then founded Beeston Voices Youth Choir (click here for more info www.bvyc.org.uk) to give children from a range of local schools the opportunity to sing together, make new friends and enjoy music as part of a wider community.

I pride myself on being approachable, energetic and fun, helping people feel comfortable and engaged, whatever the activity! I love building community and positive relationships through music with both children and adults from a wide variety of backgrounds and look forward to seeing how ‘Becky Oakland Music’ evolves over the next 5 years and beyond!!
