Building on the success of Beeston Voices Community Choir, I set up Beeston Voices Youth Choir with a small team, initially in February 2020, but sadly didn’t fully get off the ground due to Covid! We then re-launched in April 2022 and are now a well established local youth choir - still with some of our original members!

BVYC is a choir for school children from Beeston between the ages of 8 and 14. We meet weekly at Middle Street Resource Centre. We currently have 35 children representing 9 different schools in the area! Our vision at BYVC is to create a space & cross-schools community, welcoming to all. We are passionate about bridging the gap between primary and secondary and for boys, in particular, to continue singing beyond primary school, where self-consciousness and peer pressure often see this drop off dramatically. At BYVC, we see children grow in confidence and enthusiasm as they sing and let go of the increasing worries and pressures on our young people today - the positive impact on mental health and wellbeing is obvious to see.

We mainly sing songs that are uplifting, have a positive message or address topics that are pertinent to the age group – eg. One of our most recent songs samples an appropriate bit of a current pop song called ‘Anxiety’. This is increasingly important when a lot of popular youth culture is so contrary to this! We also provide opportunities for playing various percussion instruments and learning body percussion.

One of our volunteers is a children's speech and language therapist with the NHS and is also aware of how music, and especially singing, can also support speech and language development.

Please see our website for more info including the ‘member’s area’ and ‘testimonials’ section to get a flavour of the sort of songs we sing and how our members and parents feel about our fab choir!
